Chaukina Thomas, 26, of Suitland, emerged "hysterical" from the Fashion Centre at Pentagon City Tuesday morning, Sept. 5 "hysterical," thinking her car had been stolen, according to NBC Washington and Arlington County spokeswoman Ashley Savage.

Savage's vehicle was not stolen, but in fact towed, as she'd parked it in a no parking zone, Savage said. Responding officers learned this tidbit and the towing company was contacted.

"The preliminary investigation indicates the tow operator was unaware the children were inside and upon notification, pulled over to check on them," Savage said. "Responding officers then made contact with the children and determined they were in good health."

Thomas was subsequently charged with contributing to the delinquency of a minor and released on a summons.
